Fast Money Music have announced a new single, “Unfortunately”, set for release on Friday 16th January. The track is the latest release from the project and appears on the upcoming self-titled debut album, due this spring.
In addition, the band will support Bass Drum of Death at Oslo Hackney next month.
A Song About Uncertainty
“Unfortunately” is a slow-burning indie track built around guitars and a steady beat. The sound is calm but tense. As a result, the song feels reflective rather than dramatic.
Musically, the track takes influence from The War On Drugs, New Order, and Orange Juice. However, it keeps a clear and modern edge.
Themes of Distance and Timing
The lyrics focus on emotional distance. Images of the sea, moonlight, and silence appear throughout the track. Because of this, the mood stays quiet and controlled.
At the centre of the song is the idea of timing. Both voices carry emotional weight. Still, neither can fully move forward.
Overall, the track captures a moment of hesitation.
Nick Hinman on “Unfortunately”
According to Nick Hinman, the song avoids clear answers.
“It’s my haunted reply to Rupert Holmes’ Escape (The Piña Colada Song),” he explains. This version, however, is about restraint and doubt. As a result, the ending remains open.
The song reflects intuition, self-questioning, and lack of control.
Production and Recording
“Unfortunately” was recorded at Hackney Road Studios and at Fast Money Music’s studio in Dalston. The track was produced by Nick Hinman.
Meanwhile, Mikko Gordon (The Smile, Arcade Fire) handled mixing and executive production. Matt Colton (Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys) mastered the track.
The single features guitar from Daniel Vildòsola (CMAT) and drums by Steffan Halperin (Klaxons).
Debut Album Details
The debut album, Fast Money Music, will be released on 17th April 2026. The record was written over ten years. Because of this, it explores different stages of life.
Musically, it blends indie pop, post-punk, and jangly guitar sounds. Influences include The Cleaners from Venus, Guided by Voices, and ESG.
According to Hinman, the album is his most personal work to date.
