Brighton-based musician and singer James Parker, formerly of Hey Colossus and lo-fi doom metallers Gorse, unveils his second solo album under the name Dormansland. Titled Sounds from the Kuiper Belt, the album is now available on Bandcamp.
Blending shoegaze, poppy noise rock, and experimental indie, Dormansland Sounds from the Kuiper Belt presents a compelling mix of original tracks and cover versions. Parker’s project first emerged as a personal response to the chaos of 2016, from political turmoil to the loss of musical icons. What began as an outlet for frustration and reflection has evolved into a distinct and immersive sonic universe.
From Melancholy to Joy
This new album expands Dormansland’s emotional palette. Tracks like “Blue Bay” celebrate moments of joy, while “Surprise Every Time” transforms noisy distortion into a playful love song. Meanwhile, “Reality Waves” confronts grief with a raw, contemplative edge.
To complement his originals, Parker includes four inventive cover versions, paying homage to legends like Prince, Jimmy Webb, and Tears for Fears, while adding his own atmospheric spin to a classic from The Wicker Man.
